Favorite thing about One Nevada: They know me, they make sure all my needs are met and really go the extra mile for their members. I have never felt like a number; their members matter to them.
Q: Can you tell us a little about your career path?
I started my career in Human Resources in Reno as a clerk at Circus Circus. I found that I absolutely loved the work. I was promoted after five years to Director of HR in Mississippi and then finally moved to Vegas to become the VP of HR for Monte Carlo. After many years, I left Monte Carlo and found my current home here at the Downtown Grand as the VP of HR.
Q: How many jobs did the Downtown Grand add to the Las Vegas job
market?
Approximately 550 new jobs to date and we plan to increase our staff by about 100 more positions as the tourist season peaks.
Q: How is the Downtown Grand different from other properties?
Our property is different in so many ways. We offer so much for the guest, not just while they are at the Downtown Grand but as they discover the whole downtown area. We encourage them to really get to know the city when they are with us. We have a wonderful rooftop pool area, the opportunity to dine outside as well as the usual amenities you find in most of the properties here in Las Vegas.
Q: How is the Downtown Grand helping to create a new experience or adding to the growing downtown area?

Q: What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of working at the Downtown Grand?
I get to work with some of the best people. I think we are really having a
positive impact downtown and it is exciting to be a part of the revitalization of
the area. Our team members want to be here and it shows in the service they give to our guests every day.
Q: What advice would you give someone that is currently seeking employment?
Always dress for success. Be prepared, know your strengths and your
weaknesses, go over different aspects of your work history and background as it relates to the current role you are seeking.
Q: What do you think are some of the biggest interview mistakes and what impresses you during a job interview?
Mistakes: not prepared, no eye contact with interviewer, weak hand shake. It is ok to be nervous, not many people enjoy job interviews; however, try to control the nerves and don't ramble with your answers. What impresses me is someone who has taken the time to study my company and knows when to include facts about the property during the interview. Being on time with a clean copy of your resume ready to present.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
I really enjoy riding my bicycle, puttering in my yard and reading.
