A Life of Distinguished Service to Family, Country, Community and the Credit Union.
With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to our dear friend and board member Billy G. McCoy on August 23.
General McCoy was a true family man who will be remembered for his service to his country, community and the credit union. General McCoy entered the Air Force in June 1963 and served his country with distinction for thirty years, rising to the rank of Major General in 1989. Billy flew 223 combat missions with the 4th Tactical Fighter Squadron out of Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. Some of his other notable assignments included squadron commander of the 91st Tactical Fighter Squadron in Bentwaters, England; commander of the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing, Langley, Va.; deputy chief of staff for operations of NATO's Second Allied Tactical Air Force, Rheindahlen, West Germany; and commander of the U.S. Air Force Tactical Fighter Weapons Center, Nellis Air Force Base.
Upon retiring from the Airforce in 1993, McCoy had a career at Boyd Gaming serving as Director of Development. He also served as President and COO of Luscombe Aircarft Corporation from 1997 to 2001 while serving on their board from 1997 through January 2007. The General also served as trustee of the community College of Southern Nevada and was an active member of the Nellis Support Team.
The General was a member of the credit union since 1989 and joined the Board of Directors in 1994. He served the Board for 24 years and in that time, he was chairman four times. He will be sorely missed by his fellow board members and family at One Nevada as well as family, friends and all those he touched. May he rest in peace.
