Summer Safety Tips

Keep your family safe this summer by following these tips from One Nevada Credit Union. Beat the heat and have a safe, fun summer that’s enjoyable for all.

  1. Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.Summer_Safety_for_Kids
  2. Always use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30.
  3. Sunscreen should be applied liberally 30 minutes before going out in the sun, and reapplied every two hours or sooner if swimming, sweating or toweling off.
  4. Enroll children over the age of three in swimming lessons
  5. Don’t rely on lifeguards to watch over your children
  6. Never leave your child unattended
  7. Do not allow children to play or swim near drains, pipes and other openings in pools and spas.
  8. Protect your skin and eyes.
  9. Too many sunburns can lead to skin problems – including skin cancer.Beach Dog
  10. Ensure that your animals’ needs for water and shade are met.
  11. Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.
  12. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
  13. Eat small meals and eat more often.
  14. Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.
  15. Always have a first aid kit and emergency contacts handy.
