One Nevada Credit Union Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As the leaves turn all shades of red, orange and golden yellow … One Nevada Credit Union is turning a shade of pink. October is breast cancer awareness month and we are pleased to be doing our part in support of this important cause.

Breast cancer no longer just affects women over the age of 40. More and more cases of women in their 20s and 30s are turning up, as well as almost 2,000 men who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

Know your facts about breast cancer! The symptoms of breast cancer include:

  • Lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm that persists through the menstrual cycle.
  • A mass or lump, which may feel as small as a pea.
  • A change in the size, shape, or contour of the breast.
  • A blood-stained or clear fluid discharge from the nipple.
  • A change in the feel or appearance of the skin on the breast or nipple (dimpled, puckered, scaly, or inflamed).
  • Redness of the skin on the breast or nipple.
  • A change in shape or position of the nipple
  • An area that is distinctly different from any other area on either breast.
  • A marble-like hardened area under the skin.

To raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, One Nevada Credit Union hosted a root beer float afternoon and pancake breakfast, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Employees were invited to enjoy root beer floats, a pancake and sausage breakfast and had the opportunity to purchase breast cancer related merchandise. Employees made donations and One Nevada is also taking part in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Summerlin on Oct. 6.
